TERMS OF USE

A library for exploration—not a substitute for your judgment.

These terms describe the boundaries of the Library, the care expected when using shared features, and the responsibilities that remain with each traveler.

Effective September 20, 2026

Using The Inner Atlas means accepting these terms.

These Terms of Use form an agreement between you and The Inner Atlas concerning this website and its features. By accessing or using the Library, you agree to these terms and the Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the site.

You must be at least 13 to create an account or provide personal information. If you are under the age of legal majority where you live, use the site only with permission from a parent or guardian.

Resources orient exploration; they do not decide for you.

The Inner Atlas curates books, podcasts, communities, destinations, original sources, and editorial Maps. Inclusion, description, review depth, placement, or a link does not mean that The Inner Atlas endorses every claim, practice, person, organization, or destination associated with a resource.

Editorial material is offered for general educational and informational purposes. It is not medical, mental-health, legal, financial, pastoral, or crisis advice; it is not diagnosis, treatment, spiritual direction, or a safety assessment. You remain responsible for your interpretations, decisions, participation, purchases, travel, relationships, and wellbeing.

Information can become incomplete or outdated. We welcome factual corrections, but cannot guarantee that every record, link, availability statement, price, schedule, safety note, or external description is always accurate or current.

Optional features carry practical responsibilities.

Accounts and sign-in links

You are responsible for providing accurate account information, protecting access to your email, and keeping sign-in links and active sessions private. Notify us if you believe your account or an invitation has been misused. We may suspend or restrict access when reasonably necessary to protect users, the Library, or its services.

My Shelf

My Shelf is an organizational convenience, not a permanent archive. You may download a backup. Although we use reasonable care, you should not rely on the service as the only copy of information you need to preserve.

Explore Together and contact submissions

You retain ownership of names, notes, messages, and other material you submit. You give The Inner Atlas a limited, nonexclusive license to host, process, reproduce, and display that material only as needed to operate, secure, and improve the requested feature.

Invitation links can be forwarded. Do not submit confidential information, another person's sensitive information, or anything you are not authorized to share. You are responsible for the people with whom you share an invitation link.

Acceptable use

You may not use the site to:

  • break the law or violate another person's rights;
  • harass, threaten, exploit, impersonate, or deceive anyone;
  • submit unlawful, infringing, abusive, or malicious material;
  • probe, disrupt, overload, bypass, or compromise site security;
  • use automated access in a way that materially burdens the service or ignores stated technical restrictions; or
  • collect information about other users without authorization.

We may remove submitted material or limit access when we reasonably believe these terms have been violated.

The collection brings many owners and perspectives into view.

Intellectual property

The site's original design, organization, editorial writing, selection, code, and Inner Atlas Maps are owned by or licensed to The Inner Atlas and protected by applicable law. You may use the site for personal, noncommercial exploration. You may not copy, republish, sell, scrape, or create a competing collection from substantial portions of the site without permission, except as allowed by law.

Book covers, podcast artwork, quotations, trademarks, embedded media, and linked works belong to their respective owners. Their appearance does not transfer ownership to The Inner Atlas or imply sponsorship.

External sites and services

The Library links to publishers, libraries, booksellers, podcast platforms, communities, and other independent services. We do not control their content, availability, pricing, privacy, safety, accessibility, or terms. Evaluate a community, destination, practice, purchase, or professional service independently before participating.

Affiliate links and editorial independence

Some resource pages may include clearly identified affiliate links. The Inner Atlas may receive a commission if you use one. Affiliate availability or compensation does not determine inclusion, review, ranking, or prominence. The shelves are not for sale. See Editorial independence.

Copyright concerns

If you believe material on the site infringes your rights, send a specific notice through the contact page or to contact@theinneratlas.org.

The Library is offered with care, but without a guarantee of uninterrupted certainty.

We may change, correct, suspend, or discontinue any part of the site. To the fullest extent permitted by law, the site and its content are provided “as is” and “as available,” without warranties of uninterrupted availability, accuracy, completeness, fitness for a particular purpose, or noninfringement. Nothing in these terms excludes a warranty or right that cannot lawfully be excluded.

To the fullest extent permitted by law, The Inner Atlas and those who help operate it will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages, or for loss arising from reliance on editorial material, external resources, unavailable features, unauthorized access, or lost data. Where liability cannot be excluded, it will be limited to the greatest extent the law permits.

Some jurisdictions do not allow certain warranty exclusions or liability limitations, so some of these provisions may not apply to you.

These terms may change as the Library grows.

We may update these terms when features, practices, or legal obligations change. The effective date above will be revised for material updates. Continued use after an update means the revised terms apply.

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Texas, without regard to conflict-of-law rules, except where applicable law requires otherwise. If any provision is unenforceable, the remaining provisions continue in effect. Failure to enforce a provision is not a waiver. These terms and the Privacy Policy are the entire agreement concerning use of the site unless a feature presents additional terms.
