A LIBRARIAN’S ORIENTATION
What this book explores
Adyashanti addresses what may happen after a nondual opening or awakening experience: disorientation, loss of familiar identity, unfinished psychological material, relationship changes, embodiment, and the gap between a temporary glimpse and stable integration. The book assumes some prior experiential recognition rather than introducing meditation from the beginning.
EDITORIAL NOTE
Why it’s in the Library
It fills a narrow but important need for travelers whose unusual experience has disrupted rather than completed their journey. The emphasis on integration can counter fantasies that awakening instantly resolves personality, trauma, ethics, or ordinary life. Its placement is intentionally bounded so suggestive language does not teach curious readers to diagnose themselves as awakened.
Good starting place if…
You have already had a significant nondual or awakening-type experience and want sober language for integration, embodiment, and what may remain unfinished.
Know before you begin…
This is spiritual guidance within Adyashanti's teaching framework, not clinical assessment or confirmation that a particular event was awakening. Dissociation, mania, psychosis, trauma responses, neurological events, and spiritual experiences can overlap phenomenologically and may require qualified evaluation. Do not use the book to rank realization, bypass harm, or interpret every destabilizing state as progress.
