What this book explores
Marcus Borg asks what becomes possible when God is no longer imagined mainly as a distant being who occasionally intervenes from outside the world. He offers panentheism instead: everything exists in God, while God is still more than everything. From there, he explores how our image of God shapes prayer, salvation, justice, and everyday Christian life.

Why it’s in the Library
Many travelers have not stopped caring about God; the God they were taught to picture may simply no longer seem believable or good. Borg gives clear language to one influential Christian reconstruction without asking the traveler to treat it as the only alternative.
Good starting place if…
Traditional images of a distant, controlling, or interventionist God no longer work for you, but prayer, sacred presence, and Christian participation may still matter.
Know before you begin…
Panentheism means that everything exists within God, not that everything is God. It is Borg’s progressive Christian proposal, not a conclusion that science or biblical scholarship can prove. Other Christian traditions describe God’s nearness and transcendence differently.
